Perry resided at Cornelis Bol Park in Palo Alto, California and served as a support animal.
Paying for his and other donkeys’ care has slowly become a controversial issue over time. The city faced a budget deficit last year. A city councilman balked at paying tens of thousands of dollars.
A memorial service will be held in Perry’s honor at a later date.
