The remains of an Iowa man who went missing in 2018 after sending a cryptic text message to his brother have been found in Missouri, authorities say.

Two days later, the department revealed the remains belonged to Sebastian “Ty” Husted, who was initially reported missing on Jan. 22, 2018. The cause of death has not been released.

“This is a day that many people have prayed and hoped for. We found Ty and are bringing him home,” Iesha Husted, Ty’s sister, said in a post on her Facebook page. “While this was never the outcome we wanted, we are relieved that our research is over.”

Ty was last seen in Mercer County, just over the Iowa-Missouri border, “where he worked at a swine confinement facility,” according to the Missing Person Support Center, an organization nonprofit based in Missouri.

The Iowa man, who was just 18 at the time of his disappearance, “had just started” a job at the facility and was expecting to become a father.

Ieasha said her brother carpooled to the job site with a co-worker, who eventually left Ty in Missouri, according to a 2018 article by Ottumwa Courier. “He never came home,” she added.

At one point, Iesha said, Ty sent his twin brother a disturbing text message shortly after arriving in Lineville, where the hog farm was located. “He was like, ‘Please, man, come get me. Please,’” she said, according to CBS affiliate KCCI.

Mercer County Sheriff Steve Stockman told KCCI in 2018 that authorities searched the area and even emptied the pig pit where Ty worked, but found no evidence. Authorities searched the facility several times afterward, according to KTVO.

The circumstances of Ty’s death remain unknown at this time.

Family members are still searching for answers. In her Facebook post, Iesha asked members of the public to respect the family’s privacy and implored them to be careful about spreading theories about what might have happened.

She also thanked those who have supported her family in the six years since her brother’s disappearance. “All the prayers, sharing messages, kind words, shoulders to cry on, listening ears, hugs and donations have been appreciated,” she added.
