ELLSWORTH (WGME) — Police say human remains found in Ellsworth last week have been identified as those of a Sullivan man missing since 2022.
On Nov. 14, police said human skeletal remains were discovered by commercial surveyors in the woods near Red Bridge Road in Ellsworth.
The remains were transported to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy.
On Tuesday, police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the remains of Anson Snowdeal, 43, of Sullivan.
Police say Snowdeal was last seen in Ellsworth on February 9, 2022, when he was leaving a family member’s apartment on foot.
Maine State Police said Snowdeal disappeared voluntarily and appeared to be avoiding efforts to be located.
The cause and manner of death are unknown, but police say the autopsy and investigation do not confirm that Snowdeal’s death was the result of foul play.
