Throughout his political career, Mike Johnson has not shied away from expressing his religious beliefs: everything from attacking LGBTQ rights to rejecting women’s bodily autonomyis in the service of God. But on Wednesday, Christian nationalist Apparently, he had no opinion on Donald Trump’s extramarital affair with porn star Stormy Daniels or the alleged payments made to keep the tryst secret before the 2016 presidential election.

Johnson was clearly irritated by the question. “Look, I’m not going to comment on that,” he said. “What we said about what’s happening in Manhattan is I called it a shame because it is. This is clearly a law. They are clearly going after President Trump because of who he is, because he will soon officially be the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States.”
Last week, Johnson made a surprise appearance outside Trump’s trial in New York, denouncing the silence imposed on the former president. Dozens of other Republican politicians turned out at the Manhattan courthouse to bend the knee to Trump, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Senators Tim Scott, JD Vance and Tommy Tuberville.
