In Rio de Janeiro, the municipal council adopted a bill honoring those who make the realistic dolls, the signature of mayor Eduardo Paes pending. Meanwhile, legislators elsewhere across the country have debated fines for those who ask for medical aid from such dolls, following a video allegedly showing a woman by taking one in the hospital.

Legislators brought dolls to legislative chambers.

On Tuesday, Joao Luiz, a legislator of the state of Amazonas, appeared with a doll at the State House to announce plans to prohibit reception dolls from receiving care in the public health system of the State. However, local media indicated that health authorities had never recorded such cases.

Last week, MP TalĂria Petrone criticized the attention that her colleagues paid the issue. “Can we focus on what really matters? If someone wants to have a doll, leave them. I have two real children and they are more than sufficient,” she said.

Dozens of “reborn mothers” gathered at Villa Lobos Park, Sao PauloSaturday for a 10th annual meeting. Participants say that criticisms should target attention influencers, not the wider community.

Hyper-realistic baby dolls are often used for sorrow therapy or parental practice.

Berenice Maria, nursing assistant and long -standing collection who has eight dolls, says they offer emotional comfort. “I love rebirths, despite the hatred we see there,” she said. “I want the right to come out with them … Go to the shopping center, go to the park.”

Daniela Baccan, co -owner of a Reborn doll shop in Campinas, Sao Paulo, said that dolls sold 700 reais ($ 124) to nearly 10,000 reais (nearly $ 1,800).

With increasing controversy, safety problems are increasing.

“We lock the store more, adding cameras,” said Baccan. “But at the same time, online demand has increased and the store sees a much higher flow of people.”
