Rebel Moon fans level same complaint at Netflix over treatment of new Zack Snyder film

Netflix Subscribers Make Similar Complaints About New Movie Rebel Moonwhich is currently the streaming service’s most-watched title.

The new fantasy film is the latest release from writer-director Zack Snyder (300, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and he avoided the Aardman sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget and thriller Leave the world behind in the graphs. Snyder’s epic is the first chapter of a two-part franchise, which will conclude in 2024.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire was added to Netflix on Thursday December 21 and received a deluge of negative reviews from critics, including The independentwho called it “a mess bordering on incoherent” in a one-star review.

While other critics appear to agree with this judgment, leaving the film with a paltry 23 percent score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes, subscribers who have watched the film appear to disagree. At the time of writing, Rebel Moon has an audience score of 69 percent.

It’s perhaps no surprise that the film is better liked by viewers than critics – Snyder is a director with a strong fan base, and has said his fan base came out in force to support his new film on social networks.

However, even the most ardent Snyder fan seems to believe that there is a problem with the film: it needs to be longer. Social networks are full of messages claiming that Rebel Moon presents pacing issues, and that Netflix should have released the directorial, which it held back in favor of a big reveal in early 2024.

“I think Netflix holding back on a longer edit – and from what I’ve heard, better – really backfired,” one viewer wrote, with another adding: “For me, there’s had some slight pacing issues, but I imagine these will be more or less resolved in the longer the cut.

Other followers agreed, with one commenting on X/Twitter: “So when is the extended version of Rebel Moon to go out? I still have 30 minutes left but I already want a longer version. Elsewhere, another chimed in: “Not releasing the full ‘Director’s Cut’ on Netflix to begin with is just rude and greedy.” »

In the meantime, Forbes write how Rebel Moon will “suffer” because of Netflix’s decision to withhold the director’s cut in order to generate interest among Snyder’s fan base.

Snyder said there was an extended version of the film that is not suitable for younger viewers. He revealed that Netflix asked him to make a longer version of the film, and he said the result was “almost like a different movie.”

He said P.A.: “This is not a “prolonged cut” of This film – it’s almost a different universe that (the new edit) lives in than this film.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, which Snyder co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, follows an army of warriors who take on the Imperium, an army ruling a fictional galaxy threatening a farming colony on the moon. It stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins.
