  • Jamie Dimon wrote a memo to JPMorgan staff condemning the assassination attempt on Trump.
  • The CEO said people should unite against violence and engage in constructive dialogue.
  • Dimon joins other big names on Wall Street and the business world in calling for unity following the shooting.

The assassination attempt on former President Trump drew swift reactions from lawmakers and business leaders, including JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon.

Dimon joined the list of CEOs who have spoken out against the shooting with a company-wide email sent to employees on Sunday, which BI confirmed.

Dimon wrote his message on behalf of the company’s “entire leadership team” and said his thoughts were with former President Trump and his family, as well as the families of the victims of the attack.

He also took a moment to send a message of unity and take a firm stand “against any act of hatred, intimidation or violence” that undermines democracy or harms others.

“Only through constructive dialogue can we address our nation’s most difficult challenges,” Dimon wrote in the memo.

Dimon, who has donated to Democratic candidates in the past, praised Trump’s policy record in an interview earlier this year. He praised the former president for growing the economy and for being “pretty right on NATO, pretty right on immigration” as well as China. He also said he wishes “Democrats would think a little bit more carefully when they talk about MAGA.”

Dimon’s message Sunday of constructive dialogue and unity against political violence was echoed by several other business and technology leaders, as well as big names on Wall Street.

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said Monday on an earnings call that “we cannot afford to let division and distrust take over.” Sundar Pichai wrote on X that political violence is “intolerable” and that everyone should unite against it. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said Monday on CNBC that the shooting was a tragedy and that Americans need to discuss divisions and bring “our community together.”

Citibank CEO Jane Fraser also sent a letter to employees on Monday, saying she hopes the events will prompt everyone to rethink their comments and “tone down the rhetoric so we can have a more civil debate,” according to a report from Yahoo Finance.

We are deeply saddened by the political violence and attempted assassination of former President Trump last night. On behalf of our entire leadership team, our thoughts today are with the former President, his family, and the families of those who were tragically injured and killed.

We must all stand together firmly against any act of hatred, intimidation or violence that seeks to undermine our democracy or harm us. Only through constructive dialogue can we address the most difficult challenges facing our country.
