Rays send Jason Adam to Padres ahead of MLB trade deadline

Another reliever domino fell before the MLB trade deadline, with Jason Adam — a key member of the Rays’ bullpen since 2022 — being sent to the Padres in exchange for Dylan Lesko, Homer Bush Jr. and J.D. Gonzalez, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Sunday.

In 47 appearances this season, Adam has a 2.49 ERA with 50 walks and 16 strikeouts while playing in front of closer Pete Fairbanks.

He also becomes the latest reliever to be traded before the July 30 deadline, with Angels closer Carlos Estevez being traded to the Phillies on Saturday and Mariners reliever Ryne Stanek joining the Mets on Friday.

And that means for teams still looking for a reliever, which would include the Yankees, their options have started to dwindle.

The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Saturday that the Yankees are one of six teams — along with the Orioles, Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Mariners — pursuing Marlins star closer Tanner Scott, who would add to a bullpen that has been forced to navigate the struggles of closer Clay Holmes and others.

Before their late-inning heroics Saturday in a win over the Red Sox, Michael Tonkin allowed two runs in the seventh inning that nearly lost the game to the Yankees until Trent Grisham tied the game with two outs — and a 2-2 count — in the ninth inning with an RBI double.

Heyman also reported Sunday that the Yankees have expressed interest in starting pitcher Blake Snell, though it’s unclear whether the Giants would part ways with their starter who struck out 15 batters in his last outing.
