Rare precipitation in early June could reach Phoenix

On Saturday, a storm that turns off the coast of Baja in California in Mexico was about to dive into the southwest of the United States and to drag with it remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains of remains Post-Tropical Alvin storm.

This system, which is unusually wet for this period of the year, will bring a rare chance for thunderstorms and brief heavy showers in the region, especially in Southeast California, south-west of New Mexico and south of Arizona, including Phoenix, Sunday until Monday.

The rain would be very welcome in an area with drought conditions widespread after a winter of precipitation lower than normal.

“For this time of year, it’s quite unusual,” Mark O’malley, a meteorologist of the National Weather Service Office, told Phoenix.

The official meteorological service gauge for the Phoenix region is at Sky Harbor International Airport. He recorded measurable precipitation during the first week of June 21 times, with records dating back to 1896.

“Normal precipitation is zero,” said O’malley about the first week of June.

The airport will record the rain on Sunday afternoon or in the evening, the chances of precipitation continuing on Monday.

A thunderstorm or two could move to the airport and bring half a pump of rain, or the showers could knock on 10 miles west of the airport, and there would be little rain.

This unusual meteorological configuration will bring a chance of rain and thunderstorms in most of the southwest on Sunday Monday, especially south-eastern California, southern Nevada, all of Arizona, west of New Mexico, the Wasatch mountains in Utah and the Rocky Colorado mountains.

“This is a fairly large band of humidity, so I would say in fact that there is not only a chance of rain, but the rain is likely,” said Peter Mullinax, meteorologist of the meteorological prediction center for the meteorological service.

The chances are the highest in southern Arizona, the southwest of New Mexico and Southeast California, and the meteorological prediction center put this area under a marginal risk-level 1 of 4-for excessive precipitation which could cause sudden floods on Sunday. A southern arizona slice is a higher riskLevel 2 of 4.

Mr. O’Malley said that minor floods on roads in the Grand Phoenix region were possible.

Storms sometimes pass over the southwest at the end of spring, but they are generally dry. The rain is more common during the monsoon season that starts on June 15 and lasts until September.

“These storms pass and you would never know, apart from a little wind,” said Mr. O’malley. “With this storm, you have this humidity which is taken from Alvin – it’s the big difference.”

Mr. Mullinax said that there was also a strong component of the southern wind which escorted tropical humidity to the north in the southwest.
