Brendan Rodgers’ side have the advantage at the moment, but defeat against their rivals will see the title race slip away from them.

Philippe Clément knows that a victory puts his men in charge, but if they lose to the Hoops, it would be very difficult to knock them off the top.

Rangers vs Celtic: Old Firm record

Rangers and Celtic will face off this weekend in the first Old Firm of 2024.

Their last meeting took place on December 30, with Celtic winning 2-1.

This victory for Rodgers’ team was the sixth in his last 10 derbies in all competitions.

Rangers have won just one in that period, last beating Celtic in May last year.

At Ibrox, Clément’s team were beaten 1-0 at the start of the season and will hope to get their revenge on Sunday afternoon.

This clash is arguably one of the most important in recent years with both teams so close together in the title race.

Rangers vs Celtic: team news

Left-back Ridvan Yilmaz could return for Rangers in the Old Firm after missing the last game with an injury picked up on international duty.

Abdallah Sima returned to action against Hibernian last weekend and could replace Fabio Silva or Cyriel Dessers.

As for Celtic, captain Callum McGregor is close to returning to full fitness and could feature from the start.

However, a departure for Cameron Carter-Vickers could come too soon after recovering from a long-term issue.

Luis Palma remains out after not playing since before the international break.

Rangers vs Celtic: What was said?

In an interesting sporting crossover, WWE superstar and Rangers fan Drew McIntyre believes his team will “crush” Celtic this weekend.

McIntyre told U105 Radio: “At the moment we have the momentum and in the Old Firm game we are going to crush them.

“I hear all the excuses, mainly from family members who are Celtic fans, about what’s happening at the moment, but we’ve been on fire recently.

“Recently we found a goalkeeper in Butland who can replace McGregor – it’s been a fight for a long time.

“It’s a shame we’re knocked out of Europe, but it was never a penalty in the first leg against Benfica, so I’ll stick with it!

“But in terms of the championship, it’s up to us. It’s Rangers season. Like I said, we’re on fire, we’ve got momentum. We have the match in hand.

“We’re going to get to the top of the league, then we’re going to crush Celtic and I’m going to win the world title.

“It’s fate.”
