Random: Larian’s attention to detail in Baldur’s Gate 3 remains unmatched

A year after the launch of the groundbreaking combat RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, developer Larian Studios’ ridiculous attention to detail still manages to impress. We’re not sure how the wizards managed to predict the weird and bizarre things players would do with their open-ended epic, but they’ve apparently thought of everything. Vague spoilers for Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 to follow!

YouTuber Proxy Gate Tactician has been testing out some weird edge cases to try and get a reaction out of the game (thanks, PC Gamer). In Act 3, the player is tasked with collecting all three Netherstones to progress, so the content creator is doing his best to get rid of these plot-centric devices. In doing so, Proxy Gate Tactician has unearthed some very likely never-before-seen dialogue and a unique, non-standard endgame sequence.

They tried to leave the stones in the Iron Throne’s underwater dungeon, which players only visit once, leading to some interesting reactions and a mini-quest to retrieve them, as the stones inevitably end up back on the docks of the Lower City. By default, they’ll be carried by ambush Sahuagin, but if the player has already killed these shady foes, they’ll end up in the greedy hands of a fishmonger known as Old Troutman, who will sell them to the player for next to nothing. But what if you’ve already killed Old Troutman, like a psychopath from Dark Urge? The stones will spawn inside a fish and wash up on shore.

Similarly, the Steel Watch Foundry can be irreversibly destroyed, and so attempting to dispose of the stones inside before doing so can result in a non-standard ending. A group of kobolds will spawn, after looting the stones from the rubble, and the player will only have five turns to retrieve them before being faced with a unique “Lost the Netherstones” ending.
