Ramos to debut as DH, Soler on 10-day injured list

Heliot Ramos will make his season debut today for the Giants, finishing seventh as Colorado’s designated hitter.

To make room for Ramos’ recall from Triple-A Sacramento, the Giants are giving struggling slugger Jorge Soler more time to recover from a shoulder injury.

Ramos, the Giants’ first-round pick in 2017, hit .158 in his big league appearances over the previous two seasons, consisting of 34 games (nine hits in 76 at-bats with one homer, two RBIs and six walks).

In 30 games in Sacramento, Ramos hit .296 with eight home runs, 23 runs scored, three doubles, two triples and 16 walks.

Soler was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sunday. The 11th-year veteran got off to a slow start in his first season with the Giants, having totaled five home runs with just eight RBIs and a .202 batting average, .294 on-base percentage and slugging percentage. of .361.

He has just three hits in his last 10 games (35 at-bats).

After beating the Rockies 5-0 on Monday behind Kyle Harrison’s seven shutout innings, the Giants will start Jordan Hicks (2-1) today for his eighth start this season, matching his career total before this season (all came with the 2022 Cardinals). Hicks’ 1.89 ERA ranks eighth in the majors this season.
