Rainy and windy, with ‘picture perfect’ weekend ahead – NBC Chicago

A cool, rainy day is forecast for much of the Chicago area on Thursday, as scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the region.

Thursday morning started out soggy for some, with Chicago weather radar showing pockets of drizzle and spotty showers over parts of Lake, Cook, Kankakee and Will counties. In northwest Indiana, heavier rain was falling, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.

These pockets of rain will continue throughout the day, NBC 5 meteorologist Alicia Roman said, with some dry weather as well as scattered light showers forecast for most of the afternoon and evening. . More moderate rain could fall in areas east of I-55, Roman said.

Later in the day, some areas may hear rumbles of thunder.

“We could see a few thunderstorms develop later today,” Roman said.

In addition to the rain, the weather is expected to be cooler on Thursday, Roman said. Temperatures in the 50s were expected in most areas, Roman said, adding that temperatures were expected to be warmer in the west and cooler near the lake.

Thursday was also expected to be windy, with gusts at times between 30 and 40 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.

“Expect a rainy, cloudy, cooler and windy day,” Roman said.

On Friday, a few showers and clouds are expected to persist early in the morning, but will clear around noon to give way to afternoon sun. Temperatures Friday are expected to remain cooler, with strong winds and temperatures remaining in the 50s and 60s, and strong winds, Roman said.

Heading into the weekend, weather conditions in Chicago seemed “perfect,” Roman said.

Both days of the weekend are expected to be mostly clear and sunny, with high temperatures in the upper 60s on Saturday. Sunday will be an even warmer day, with high temperatures in the mid to low 70s, Roman said. Some parts could see temperatures near 80, Roman added.

The next chance for showers will be Tuesday, Roman said.
