Today The days of our livesRafe struggles through DiMera’s not-at-all-secret tunnels, tied to a chair while Jada tries to call him. He manages to respond with his foot, but can’t make much noise with the gag in his mouth.

Upstairs, EJ drops off a tray of food as Belle calls. He doesn’t want to talk after she “stole” his job. She insists she didn’t pursue it, Jada just asked her to take it. EJ is annoyed, but he blames Jada and Paulina. Belle tries to tell him to maybe avoid revenge and accept what happened.

“Tell me Belle, what could I do to the mayor? Or Jada Hunter? He looks at the secret door. EJ goes down to the room where he’s being held, just in time to hang up on Jada. He makes breakfast, tells Rafe that it’s all Arnold’s fault, which undoes Rafe’s very angry gag.

More: Two surprising redesigns

EJ then stands there and lets Rafe clear all his calls using his system. When he gets tired, EJ calmly asks if he’s finished. He didn’t want this to happen, but Rafe was the one who broke into the house after being told to leave before he could get rid of Arnold himself. “Are you blaming me for this?!”

He says Jada is probably already looking for him, but when EJ says no, Rafe realizes with horror that Arnold has taken his place again. EJ is quick to assure Rafe that yes, Arnold shared a kiss with Jada on New Year’s Day, but he stopped things and hid the fake Rafe until EJ “could clean up this mess “.

Rafe points out that EJ doesn’t have many options because he can’t keep him kidnapped forever. EJ ignores this, so Rafe offers a deal. The two team up to take down Arnold for good, while Rafe promises not to report EJ or say anything about it. EJ, however, doesn’t think Arnold will stay silent and once that happens, Rafe won’t be able to stop Jada from going after him. So EJ refuses Rafe. He’s going to clean this up by himself and in the meantime, Rafe has to stay put.

Javi slips some of Gabi’s shampoo as he prepares to take a shower, only to receive a notification from the new whistleblower. He smiles and walks towards the bathroom. Once dressed, he goes down to ask a worried Jada what’s wrong. She mentions calling Rafe and hearing muffled sounds, so she tries again and it goes straight to voicemail.

She leaves a message and Javi tries to calm her down about wedding planning. They plan to have a modest wedding by the end of the month. Javi offers to take care of the wedding – he’s going to make sure her wedding goes off from the start. After some hesitation, Jada accepts.

Javi admits how much he loves weddings, but isn’t sure he’ll ever have one himself. He sees Kerry, but he’s not sure if it’s him. Leo, on the other hand, seduced him – until he ruined it. Jada teases him a little, but Javi swears they’re over for good.

More: Revisiting an unforgettable Christmas ache

Marlena comes home from a practice session after Belle hangs up with EJ and wants to hear all the details about DiMera’s super “awkward” and weird New Year’s Eve party. That’s when she tells her delighted mother that she got EJ’s job – which means staying in Salem. Belle admits that things with EJ are uncomfortable, but it’s not like she’s going to cross him like Shawn is. She is afraid to work with him.

Right on cue, Shawn knocks on the door. He asks to come up with cases that Belle might want to look into after EJ refuses to prosecute. Belle promises to do what she can to make the accusations stick and Shawn smiles, telling her that he trusts her completely. As he leaves, Marlena lets him know that he will always be part of their family.

Marlena compliments her daughter on how they both handled the situation, then promises that Belle will be an amazing prosecutor – as long as she gives EJ a wide berth. They bring up Belle and EJ’s affair and she promises it won’t happen again. She promises to be careful.

Leo laments spending New Year’s Eve alone in his room. To make matters worse, another whistleblower appears, calling Leo directly and teasing him that he might lose his job soon.

In the square, Chanel hangs up on Johnny, then sees Joy going through the lines on the bench. She storms in and glares at him until Joy stands up nervously. “I have a lot to tell you,” she begins, “How the hell do you live with yourself?” Joy promises that nothing really happened because Johnny loves her and stopped her. But when she asks if Chanel could forgive Johnny…

She cares about both of them and this all happened because of a misunderstanding. Chanel takes the opportunity to explain that it was Johnny who started this whole thing by not trusting her, then got into bed with her, then continued to lie about it. Like Joy did. Chanel wants to know why her ex-friend didn’t tell her from the start, especially after everything she did to look after Joy.

“I didn’t ask you to watch over me.” She thanks Chanel for everything, but Chanel is too angry with her to care. She made a fool of herself over and over again and Joy betrayed a friend to protect her job. That’s not it, Joy insists. She didn’t want her first impression in town to be that of a “happy homewrecker.” Chanel sighs and admits that she did stupid things, but she thought Joy was her friend and that’s not how you treat a friend.

Besides, even though she didn’t know who Johnny was, she knew he was married and it made no difference. Joy, in tears, says Chanel is right. It was still bad. If only she had taken the money Johnny’s father offered her to leave town. “EJ did what?!” She is furious, tells Joy that she is not a good person and that her advice is to take the money and pretend none of this happened. Chanel then leaves behind a stunned Joy.

Johnny plays with his ring in the Body and soul offices when Leo bursts in saying the new whistleblower has lit a fire under him, and he’s writing new documents that won’t be spoiled. He comes up with an idea that Regan and Faith are trapped together and Johnny wastes no time in shooting him down. They won’t do it because of him.

He informs a stunned Leo about the relationship who isn’t even sure if it’s “technically, even cheating.” It doesn’t matter because Johnny screwed up with his first accusations and then lied again and again. Leo then tells Johnny that he did something similar by making accusations with Javi and Lady Whistleblower and now that ship has sailed. Johnny admits he’s not optimistic about his own chances of reconciling either.

Leo promises to separate Chanel and Joy as best he can. He needs more caffeine to understand a new story, though, so he leaves, leaving Johnny sighing behind him.

In the final moments of the show, Chanel stops at Body and soul offices to tell Johnny that she is resigning. Leo meets Joy in the square and informs her of the last minute changes after learning what happened. Afterwards, he comes face to face with Javi.

Rafe struggles in the tunnels, while upstairs, EJ checks Rafe’s voicemail. He texts her as Rafe, apologizing, saying he will contact you soon as he is very busy. “That should shut her up for a while.” Shawn appears at the police department as Jada receives a text message “allegedly from Rafe.” She has the strange feeling that it’s not coming from him.

Following The days of our livesStephanie needs Chad by her side, and Leo and Javi get back together.
