Radio star says his soccer team won because one of their biggest stars ‘had my face in his groin’

A Queensland radio presenter believes the secret to the Brisbane Broncos’ latest victory is that star forward Pat Carrigan wore lucky underwear with his face on it during the match.

Nova radio host David ‘Luttsy’ Lutteral gave Carrigan a pair of distinctive red parakeet smugglers on a show earlier this month, and he believes they were the key to victory of Brisbane against Parramatta on Friday.

Carrigan wore the underwear in his side’s loss to the Roosters on May 3, but decided to give them another chance against the Eels.

“I really respect the fact that he wore them for the second game after losing the first game. Coach Walters instilled in the team that I brought good luck to the team and Patty just put them through a double wash cycle and opted for the second round,” Lutteral said.

Carrigan received a special pair of boxer shorts from the radio host earlier this month.

The popular radio host said the idea to make the underwear was all Carrigan’s.

“I’m not even kidding, it was Pat’s idea. One day we were having a milkshake on James St and he said to me “Why don’t I find some budgie smugglers with your face on them”? ” he said.

“I mean, how could I resist that!”

Lutteral added that Carrigan’s Broncos teammates want their own pair of lucky underwear, but he won’t be one of them.

“Of course other players like Kotoni (Staggs) want to wear them now but I couldn’t do it to Patty. I’m a single budgie dealer and I know Patty is too,” he said. explain.

He hopes to see Carrigan wearing his special underwear when he plays for Queensland in this year’s State of Origin series.

“I guess the ultimate goal would be to see Patty celebrate an Origin win with my face in her groin,” he said.
