Queensland is expected to be inundated with up to 100mm of rain and the massive downpours are expected to last for several days.
The Sunshine State will be worst hit by a low pressure system that has formed in the Coral Sea, which will bring heavy rainfall to southeast Queensland for the remainder of the weekend.
Rainfall totals of between 40 and 80 mm are expected across the region through Tuesday, with isolated rainfall of between 80 and 100 mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued several flood warnings across Queensland and strong winds are expected to hit parts of the region.

Up to 80mm of rain fell in the central Queensland towns of Rockhampton and Bundaberg from Saturday evening until early Sunday morning.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said wet weather would continue for the remainder of Sunday in southeast Queensland.
“We won’t see a change until later on Sunday as the wet weather begins to contract offshore, leaving some coastal showers early next week,” she said.
The wet weather will also soak parts of northern NSW with scattered showers persisting into Monday and Tuesday.

Parts of northern NSW will also be drenched by showers before wet conditions (pictured) move offshore.
Several towns in north-eastern NSW, including Ballina, Lismore and Tweed Heads, are expected to prepare for rainfall totals of 60-80mm between Anzac Day and May 1.
The weather bureau has urged residents of K’gari and the Sunshine Coast to stay away from surf due to strong sea conditions.
Rock fishermen have also been urged to heed wet weather warnings.
