Queensland mother stunned by angry neighbor’s ‘unreasonable’ note over crying baby

A new mother was shocked to find a note left in her letterbox complaining about the amount of noise her four-month-old son makes.

Tiffany, 36, said she burst into tears after discovering the message that had been typed on a sheet of A4 paper written by an anonymous resident of Redcliffe, north of Brisbane.

She shared a photo of the passive-aggressive note that went viral and sparked a mixed reaction on Facebook.

“I am writing this on behalf of your neighbors and wanted to contact you regarding the level of noise coming from your residence, particularly your baby’s crying,” the note said.

“While we understand that babies cry and a newborn can be tough, we can clearly hear it all from the early hours of the morning, throughout the day and well into the evening.

“The prolonged and frequent crying has disturbed your neighbors. Some of us are working from home and others are working shifts. We have tried closing our windows and doors and even turned on appliances with the TV and radio and the crying is still heard.

“We appreciate being good neighbors and respecting each other’s space, but we wanted to reach out and ask if it would be possible to close your back doors and windows while the baby is feeling unsettled.”

The note ended with a request for Tiffany’s understanding and appreciation on this matter.

Tiffany told Yahoo News Australia the “unreasonable” rating came as a huge shock and left her “pretty upset”.

The Queensland mother said she and her partner John bought their first family home last year near a busy main road with a “very lively” ibis colony and a “reputation for hoons”.

She hit back by slamming the note, saying she thinks neighbors know how unreasonable it is to complain about a crying baby in the suburbs, before describing the struggle of new parenthood as “difficult and isolating” .

Tiffany insisted her baby was “pretty relaxed,” “settled quickly” and didn’t cry all night.

The young couple believed there were better ways around the dispute and that “we would have been open to a conversation.”

“When you read the nuances, you know the reason they used that language is to provoke guilt,” Tiffany told Yahoo.

“But I’m not going to close my windows, and we’re not going to lock our house or muzzle our baby.”

The note sparked a divided reaction online.

“As a new mother myself, it really hurt me to read this. As if we don’t already have enough to worry about,” commented one Australian.

Another added: “This person has obviously never dealt with a newborn. »

While many agreed the letter was “rude” and “pathetic,” others felt the neighbor’s request was “very reasonable” and “well-considered.”

“It’s not an aggressive letter or anything insulting or threatening. He even says he wants to be good neighbors,” commented one Australian.

“I don’t see anything wrong with it,” added another.

Moreton Bay Council can investigate breaches of household noise regulations, but residents are encouraged to try to resolve problems among themselves, saying that people cannot realize that the noise in their home affects others.
