Quantum Leap: The Revival’s lost plan to bring Sam home

But that wasn’t the case. Could the reason, as Wynbrandt always knew, be? “It’s not up to us to decide whether Scott (Bakula) decides to go on the show or not. He has to want to do it. He goes on to speculate that “for him, with Dean passing away, I think he felt the ship had sailed. He was very respectful (towards Wynbrandt and Lilien.) He was complimentary of the pitch. He just didn’t feel like his story had been told.

Despite this, Wynbrandt and others involved with the series hoped they could persuade Bakula to appear at some point. This unfortunately never happened. “(Bakula) just wasn’t interested. (He) was so respectful to Don (Bellisario, the original creator of Quantum leap‘s). He just did it respectfully and we had to respect his wishes.

The new series pays homage and includes elements from the original series, including the return of recurring character Beth Calavicci (Susan Diol), but Wynbrandt echoes what fans can definitely agree with: “We all would have preferred the universe’s version. where (Bakula) said, “yes, let’s do it.” »

It’s a shame that Scott Bakula never returned to his iconic role but it’s understandable. Additionally, its lack of involvement meant that the new series could devote more time to its own characters and lore, allowing it to stand as its own unique entry in the franchise.

Perhaps there is a timeline in which Sam’s final step will be to change the course of history so that Wynbrandt’s original plan can become a reality. Meanwhile, for many fans, Sam not coming home remains the biggest wrong that will need to be righted at some point in the future (or would it be the past?)
