Twelve people were injured after a Qatar Airlines flight from Doha, Qatar, to Dublin, Ireland, was hit by turbulence over Turkey.

Twelve people were injured on Sunday after a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin was hit by turbulence.
The plane, which landed in Dublin shortly before 1 p.m. local time, was met by emergency services including airport police and fire and rescue services.
According to a statement from Dublin Airport, six passengers and six crew members were injured in the incident, eight of whom were taken to hospital after assessment. Qatar Airways flight QR107 experienced turbulence while flying over Turkey, the statement said.
Dublin Airport said it was assisting passengers and staff and operations were not affected. The plane’s return flight to Doha, flight QR018, is expected to take place as planned, although its departure will be delayed, the airport said.
In a statement to CNN, Qatar Airways said the plane landed safely in Dublin, but “a small number of passengers and crew suffered minor injuries in flight and are currently receiving medical treatment.”
“The matter is now the subject of an internal investigation,” the statement continued. “The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our top priority.”
It comes days after 104 passengers were injured and a man with heart problems was killed on a Singapore Airlines flight that was hit by severe turbulence.
Flight SQ321 from London to Singapore was cruising at 37,000 feet on Tuesday when the plane dropped sharply before climbing several hundred feet, according to flight tracking data. It then dipped and resurfaced repeatedly for about a minute.
About 65,000 planes experience moderate turbulence each year in the United States, and about 5,500 experience severe turbulence. However, these figures could be expected to increase.
Paul Williams, a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, told CNN in 2022 that he believes climate change is changing turbulence.
“We ran computer simulations and found that severe turbulence could double or triple in coming decades,” Williams said.
The results, which were later confirmed by observations, highlight a type of turbulence called “clear air turbulence”, which is not linked to any visual cues such as storms or clouds. Unlike regular turbulence, it strikes suddenly and is difficult to avoid.
CNN previously reported that the Singapore Airlines flight likely encountered rapidly developing thunderstorms, while the airline said investigations were ongoing. It is not yet known what type of turbulence the Qatar Airways plane experienced.
