Big Four PwC dismissals approximately 1,500 employees of its American workforce by 75,000, allocating the reduction of the workforce by 2% at historically low rates of people leaving the company by choice.
The layoffs began on Monday and mainly target the audit and tax lines of the company, a person familiar with Business Insider told Business Insider.
All the staff affected will be informed by the end of Tuesday via an individual meeting with their talented consultant and a partner of his team, said the person.
“It was a difficult decision, and we made it carefully, reflection and a deep awareness of its impact on our people, appreciating that historically low levels of attrition during the consecutive years have made this stage necessary,” said a spokesperson for PWC.
In an email sent to the staff on Monday, Deanna Byrne, American insurance leader of PWC, qualified “incredibly difficult” momentums.
“This decision follows a long period of narrow review – as well as to actively support internal mobility and the displacement of talents to support growth areas. But with historically low attrition and continuous market changes, this is a necessary step to better align our business for the future,” Byrne told insurance staff in internal email, which Bi has examined.
An employee of the company’s insurance division described layoffs as “disturbing”. They said that the audit and taxes were reputation for being more stable in relation to the Big Four advice divisions.
“I would not say that this align with my expectations of a leading professional service company,” said the employee at BI. They asked for anonymity because they were not allowed to speak to the press.
The employee added that they were not surprised that there were layoffs, given that during a recent meeting with their head of the regional sector on April 2, there was “a discussion on increased pressure on the results of the company as opposed to last year”.
A person familiar with the case told BI that layoffs also have an impact on certain workers in the PWC (P&T) product and technology division in the longer -term disassembly of this department.
The person said that some employees in the division had been transferred to other service services and that the remaining employees were released.
PWC US also slows future job and internship offers, and the company Big Four plans to be more selective about appointments in the future, added the person, saying that all existing offers are honored.
During its last financial year, the annual growth of the PWC Americas division slowed 10.7% in 2023 to 3.4% in 2024.
The other large EY and Deloitte companies have also made dismissals and slowed the partners’ meetings in the past year in the slowdown in the wider council industry.
