Russian President Vladimir Putin declared an Easter ceasefire in his invasion of Ukraine.
During a meeting in Kremlin, Putin called for his forces to stop all military operations from 6 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday at 12 noon, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a post on Telegram.
“Guided by humanitarian reasons, the Russian party announces a cease-fire from Easter from 4:00 p.m. today at 12:00 am on Monday. I order by this all the military operations stopped for this period,” said a press release.
He added that Moscow expected Ukraine to follow his example, but that the Russian forces should be “ready to repel any violations of ceasefire and provocations by the enemy, as well as any aggressive act on their part”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not yet responded to the declaration.
