LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A suspect in a Toyota Prius smashed through a door and fled police with a damaged windshield during a dangerous chase in the San Fernando Valley Thursday night.

After fleeing on surface streets and the 5 Freeway, the pursuit ended in the Sunland area when the suspect abandoned the car and hid in a nearby neighborhood.

The suspect was spotted sneaking into a garage. A search for the suspect was then launched and it appears that police are still looking for him.

AIR7 ended the chase just before 8 p.m.

The pursuit ended in the area of Wyngate Street and Sunland Boulevard when the suspect stopped at a gated entrance and began fleeing police.

It is unclear whether the suspect knew the unit he infiltrated.

The Prius is the same vehicle that police were following earlier in the day. In that case, Los Angeles police were following the car, later followed by Burbank police before backing down.
