Pskov airport in northwestern Russia was targeted by a Ukrainian drone attack, regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov announced.
“The Ministry of Defense repels a drone attack at Pskov airport,” regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov said at 11:30 p.m. on the night of August 29, in a message on Telegram accompanied by a video of the fire, where we hear sirens and explosions.
“According to initial information, there are no casualties. The extent of the destruction is being established,” he said. According to Russian media Rybar quoting the emergency services, four Il-76 heavy cargo planes were damaged in the attack.
Pskov is located in the northwest of Russia, not far from Estonia, and 664km in direct line from the Ukrainian border.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has also reported that between midnight and 4:00 a.m. it shot down five drones in the regions of Oryol, Kaluga, Ryazan and Moscow.
Drone attacks in the direction of Moscow or the Crimean peninsula have gradually become almost daily since Ukraine launched a counter-offensive in early June, which is struggling on the ground.
