Atlanta (AP) – Atlanta prosecutors ask a judge to revoke Thug Probation and send it to prison because of its viral post which sparked an online reaction against the office of the district prosecutor.
The rapper winning Grammy pleaded guilty in October to accusations of gang, drugs and firearms and was prisoned. However, the County Prosecutor of Fulton Bani Willis said that he “engaged in a conduct which directly threatens the security of witnesses and prosecutors, compromises the legal proceedings in progress and justifies an immediate revocation of probation”.
Wednesday, in a legal file, Willis said that Young Thug had republished a publication on social networks which included a photo of an investigator in the office of the district prosecutor with a legend who said that the investigator is “the greatest liar of the DA office”. The position “quickly became viral, amazing more than 2 million views, with thousands of comments and retweets”.
The home address of the investigator and that of his parents were published publicly, and some messages included threats to the investigator and his family, according to the file. A position threatened Willis’ assassination.
“I do not threaten people, I am a good person,” said Young Thug on Wednesday evening on the social platform X. “I would never tolerate anyone threatening anyone or definitively participates in threatening anyone. I am all about peace and love.”
Brian Steel, lawyer for Young Thug, said in a judicial file on Thursday that the allegations of the prosecutors were misleading and that the rapper had done nothing to violate his probation.
Young Thug, whose first name is Jeffery Williams, was charged with more than two dozen other people in May 2022, accused of having violated the anti-rat law of Georgia. The indictment said that the rapper Co -founded a violent street gang This has committed several murders, shootings and carjacks over a decade and promoted its activities in songs and on social networks.
A judge from the County Court of Fulton granted him a total sentence of 40 years. The first five years were to be purged in prison, but it was commissioned towards the purged time. Then he was 15 years old in probation. Finally, a 20 -year “back” prison will be commissioned towards the time purged if it complies with all the conditions of its probation.
If the judge grants the revocation of probation, this 20 -year prison sentence would take effect.
The prosecutors say that the investigator whose photo Young Thug has republished is currently a witness in a case of “murder of multi-defense gangs”. The judge explicitly declared during a hearing that the investigator should not be shown on television during the testimony, said his file.
A blogger published the photo of the investigator on social networks with legend: “She does not want to be shown on the screen? Well, she is there ”, and Young Thug republished this, prosecutors wrote.
The continuous association of Young Thug with individuals actively involved in the intimidation of witnesses, threats of violence and the obstruction of justice ”constitutes a violation of the conditions of its probation, prosecutors wrote.
His lawyer wrote that there was no suggestion that the rapper was aware of the judge’s ordinance not to show the investigator, and it is not a violation of probation to republish an image on social networks with an opinion that the investigator “is lie”.
None of the “direct threats” cited by prosecutors are attributed to the young thug.
The trial for young thug and five others started in November 2023 After took almost 10 months To establish a jury. The rapper and three other defendants pleaded guilty in October. A Jury in November noted the two accused remaining in the trial not guilty of racketeering, murder and charges related to the gangs, although one of them was sentenced for a firearm.
Young Thug co-wrote the tube “This is America” with Childish Gambino, which has become the first hip-hop track in Win the song of the year Grammy in 2019.
