A plan to build a data center system for artificial intelligence was revealed at a White House press conference, with Masayoshi Son, Sam Altman and Larry Ellison joining Donald Trump to announce the Stargate project . Their companies, Softbank, OpenAI and Oracle (respectively), as well as MGX, are listed as “early backers” for $500 billion in investments over the next four years, “building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States.”
According to a statement from OpenAI, “Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle and OpenAI” are the initial technology partners, with construction “currently underway” beginning in Texas as other sites across the country are evaluated. It also states that “Oracle, NVIDIA and OpenAI will collaborate closely to build and operate this computing system.”
Separately, Microsoft announced an update to its partnership with OpenAI, saying key elements of their agreement will remain in place until 2030, covering “our access to OpenAI intellectual property, our revenue sharing agreements and our exclusivity on OpenAI APIs.
At a press conference announcing the project, which has been rumored since early last year, Son and Altman spoke directly with Trump, insisting that the project has only come to fruition only because of his electoral victory.
