Progress halted during 17-acre brush fire in Rancho Santa Fe

Firefighters stopped the spread of a 17-acre brush fire in Rancho Santa Fe Wednesday after attacking the blaze with crews on the ground and in the air, officials said.

The fire broke out around 12:50 a.m. near Santa Fe Knolls Lane and Artesian Road, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said.

“We were concerned about some high voltage power lines and homes in the area,” Cornette said.

An evacuation warning was issued for homes on Santa Fe Knolls Lane, officials said. The alert was lifted around 5:30 p.m.

Around 2:05 p.m., firefighters announced that they had stopped the progression of the fire. Some teams remained on site to deal with possible outbreaks of violence.

Firefighters initially reported the fire burned about 4 acres. Updated mapping released around 7 p.m. increased that number to 17 acres, Cornette said.
