Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have arrested American Columbia University | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

The pro-Palestinian student group said that he had organized a demonstration to protest against the university benefiting from “imperialist violence”.

Dozens of pro-Palestinian activists organized a demonstration at Columbia University in the United States.

Images published on social networks have shown demonstrators standing on tables, singing and beating drums inside the university’s main library.

Columbia University Apartheid Desige, a group of pro-Palestinian students, said that he had occupied the library to protest against university ties with Israel.

“More than 100 people have just flooded the Butler library and renamed it a popular university of Basel al-Araj,” said the group on substock, referring to the Palestinian activist and writer who was killed by Israeli forces in 2017.

“The flood shows that as long as Columbia finances and the benefits of imperialist violence, people will continue to disrupt the benefits and legitimacy of Columbia. The repression generates resistance – if Columbia increases repression, people will continue to degenerate the disruptions on this campus. ”

The acting president of the University of Columbia, Claire Shipman, condemned the demonstration as “completely unacceptable”.

University officials called on police after the demonstrators refused requests to provide identification and leave the building, Shipman said.

“The disturbances of our academic activities will not be tolerated and constitute violations of our rules and politicians; this is particularly unacceptable while our students study and prepare for final exams,” Shipman said in a statement.

“Columbia firmly condemns violence on our campus, our anti -Semitism and all forms of hatred and discrimination, some of which we have witnessed today.”

Shipman said two Public Security Agents in Columbia were injured when individuals were trying to make their way through the building.

The New York Police Department said in a statement that “several people who did not comply with verbal warnings” to disperse had been placed in police custody.

Victories of the New York Radio Station 1010 reported that around 80 demonstrators had been arrested.

The University of Columbia, one of the best classified American universities, was the site of major demonstrations last year when protests by students against the War of Israel in Gaza broke out on more than 100 campuses across the United States.
