“People have a love story with the royal family,” said Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien auctions Vanity. “They have a love story with Princess Diana, above all. And we thought, that’s what our audience is looking for. They seek to have a piece of royal history. ”
“Diana and her sense of style – she knew how to dress, and when to dress, and she could read the room and know what would be most appreciated,” added Nolan.
Many pieces from the next auction are Diana friends and colleagues; Some were originally sold by Diana herself in her famous auction of Christie in 1997, an idea of Prince William who saw the princess of Wales at auction 79 of her most famous dresses a few months before her premature death on August 31 of the same year at only 36. Diana had finalized her divorce from Prince Charles on August 28, 1996, after a battle of almost four years; She saw the auction of Christie as a “new start”, ” Vanity reported: “A way to lose your royal past after its divorce.” This auction collected $ 3.26 million for AIDS Crust Trust and the Royal Marsden Hospital’s Cancer Fund.

“Some of the items that Diana sold in her own auction in 1997 for the various charities she supported,” said Nolan. “There were dresses that sold $ 30,000 or $ 40,000 at the time … and now they come back and sell for $ 800,000, $ 900,000, $ 1 million.”
Julien’s auctions also succeeded with Diana’s pieces. In 2023, the Jacques Azagury dress of Diana’s ballerina which she wore in 1985 sold for $ 1.14 million. The following year, a pair of his shoes sold $ 390,000.
“We organized this auction in part because of the world record prices that we obtain for the articles of Princess Diana and the royal family in general,” said Nolan Vanity.
Rich people buy the pieces, just like museums; Diana’s “timeless” style said Nolan, resists the time test.

One of the articles with auction in June is a day dress by Floral Bellville Sassoon 1989, called “attentive dress” because Diana carried it several times when those she visited could have needed an uprising.

“She wore this dress several times by visiting sick children in hospitals, because they loved colors, and that made her feel accessible and puffed,” said Nolan. “It was not a very ostentatious dress. It was just a very beautiful colorful and well -adjusted dress.”
Other sexier articles also make the cut – like a cocktail dress than Diana wore to signify her “new independence in the last part of her life”, ” Vanity wrote. Beyond the clothes, there are also personal objects, such as notes and cards, which Diana sent finesse in her immediately recognizable writing.

“We are honored to continue to preserve his heritage, telling his story through the pieces that defined his elegance, his grace, his glamor and his mind,” said Nolan, by The mirror.
“This collection is the most important offer of its wardrobe ever presented at auction, each element a window on a moment in history and a tribute to a woman whose humility and style and personal heat continues to inspire the world,” he added.
