Prince Naseem Hamed to fight Jake Paul on one condition as boxing legend teases possible return

Prince Naseem Hamed insists he would consider a return fight with Jake Paul if all proceeds were donated to charity.

The former lineal featherweight champion joined Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT Drive on Friday afternoon with his son, Aadam, to talk boxing.

During a wide-ranging interview, Naseem was asked if he would consider fighting Paul, as fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson will on July 20.

Goldstein asked: “If Jake Paul offered you £20 million, would you fight him? »

Prince replied: “Jake Paul? Jake Paul means nothing to me. £20 million, what is £20 million?

“£20m, £100m, £200m doesn’t change my lifestyle. I’m a man who gets on all fours and puts his head on the ground five times a day. I’m humble. It’s not about that.”

Hamed then insisted he would “think about it” if the profits went to a country of his choice.

He added: “You have to understand something, fight for a country for someone to succeed, for someone to raise money, an obscene amount of money, then I might think about it.

“And I could get out of bed and work out seriously, get in shape and maybe do it. For that, yes.”

Hamed has not stepped inside the ropes since May 2002, when he defeated Manuel Calvo.

However, the reigning WBO, IBF and WBC champion insists he “never officially retired” and has raised the possibility of a return to the ring.

Asked if he would come out of retirement, Hamed replied: “Stranger things have happened.

“I left my legacy in an incredible way in this world of boxing and took it to the dizzying heights of boxing.

“It’s difficult for anyone to reach that kind of level. But I come, I think, from a country that is not well-off.

“My parents are from a country, Yemen, and I would fight for that country to contribute to them in a charitable way. And like for Palestine. We stand for Palestine, man.

“As a father now, what’s happening in the Middle East, what’s happening in Palestine and what’s happening in Yemen, and the poverty hits me.

“This is the only time where, deep in my heart, I would like to fight, to do something on this basis (to raise funds).

“So I would love to train and, you never know, if we could do it like me and my three sons on one card in the Middle East.

“That would be one of my dreams.”
