Prince Louis at 6 years old photo published by the palace

LONDON β€” A close-up photo of a smiling Prince Louis has been released by Kensington Palace to mark his sixth birthday.

The photo was taken by his mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, in Windsor, where they live.

β€œHappy 6th birthday, Prince Louis! Thank you for all your well wishes today,” the message read. The image included a camera emoji and was attributed to Catherine, an avid photographer.

Wales traditionally releases a new photo every year on Louis’ birthday. But this year’s photo could attract more attention after the frenzy that followed the one released by Kensington Palace on Mother’s Day in Britain. This photo, also taken by Catherine, was removed by photo agencies after expressing concerns that it had been edited in violation of their standards.

Catherine later apologized, saying that, “like many amateur photographers”, she had “experimented with editing”.

The palace usually releases Louis’ photo to the press the day before under embargo, which is why many British press headlines on Tuesday morning reported the lack of a photo. Kensington Palace released the image around lunchtime.

Catherine shocked the nation last month when she revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and was in the early stages of chemotherapy. His news came after his father-in-law, King Charles III, also revealed he was suffering from cancer.

Last week, her husband Prince William, heir to the throne, returned to royal duties, making his first public appearance since the palace released a video of his wife sharing her cancer diagnosis.
