Prince Harry’s lawyer described the threats of justice against him, including calls for his murder, while the youngest son of King Charles appealed against an “unjustified” decision to restrict his police protection in the United Kingdom.
Harry, who was irritated by the government’s decision, saw the procedures taking place from the interior of the Royal Courts of Justice in London during a rare visit to London.
After Harry’s dramatic split with the royal family in 2020 and the move to North America with his wife Meghan, they are no longer considered to be working royals.
The British government said that it would no longer receive the “same degree” of protection funded by the State when it is in the United Kingdom, but only on a case-by-case basis.
The 40 -year -old prince brought legal action against the Ministry of the Interior and, after the rejection of his initial file last year, was now challenged before the court of appeal in the center of London.
In a written submission, the prince’s lawyers warned against the threats of the Royal security.
“Al-Qaeda recently called (Harry) to be murdered”, and he and Meghan were “involved in a pursuit of dangerous cars with paparazzi in New York” in May 2023, according to submission.
And his lawyer Shaheed Fatima said that the prince “does not accept that” tailor -made “means” better “”.
“In fact, in his submission, this means that he was distinguished for a different, unjustified and inferior treatment.”
– “forced to take a step back” –
The Duke of Sussex and his American wife Meghan Markle are now largely far from the royal family, having started a new life in California.
But the youngest son of King Charles III said that security problems have hampered his ability to visit the house and that he has rarely returned to the United Kingdom for short visits.
In a written submission to the Court of Appeal, the lawyers of Harry said that the Prince and Meghan “felt forced to take a step back” of the royal duties of the front line because “they considered that they were not protected by the institution”.
Harry was widely criticized when, in his autobiography, “spare”, he said he killed 25 people in Afghanistan, causing the Taliban anger.
Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a high -speed car accident in Paris in 1997 when she was trying to escape the paparazzi photographers.
The prince’s legal battle focuses on a decision of February 2020 to demarcate its security, taken by the Ministry of the Interior of the United Kingdom and a committee which deals with the protection of the Royals and Public Personalities.
The High Court ruled in February 2024 against the Harry affair, saying that the government had acted legally.
The prince’s initial candidacy was refused in April 2024 and was ordered to pay around £ 1,000,000 ($ 1.27 million) in legal costs, according to the Journal Times.
However, the following month, a judge said that Harry could in fact contest the decision at the Court of Appeal.
Fatima argued that the committee had not carried out a risk assessment at Harry and that the high court was wrong to neglect this.
– “Right to security” –
“This appeal concerns the most fundamental law – personal security and security,” said Fatima on Tuesday.
Harry, dressed in a dark suit with a tie with blue patterns, looked in the courtroom, sometimes whispering in the ear of another member of his legal team or writing in a notebook.
In his submission to the court, the government insisted on Harry’s security “would be considered according to the circumstances” given its change of position.
The audience should end on Wednesday, some parts that stand in private due to security problems.
One decision in writing is expected on a later date.
Harry, who continued several legal proceedings against the British British tabloid daily newspapers, is also involved in a distinct row on a charity he has co -founded in southern Africa.
A bitter battle of the conference room saw the prince resigning as the boss of the Sentebale charity.
His chair, Sophie Chandauka, accused him of “intimidation” and of being involved in a “coverage”.
Harry turned what he called “blantant lies” and charity based in the United Kingdom launched an investigation.
