Prince Harry wears a medal “awarded for services to the monarchy”, but still does not appear to be wearing the medal given to him at his father’s coronation, apparently an affront to Charles.

Prince Harry today wore a medal awarded to him by the late Queen for his ‘services to the monarchy’ as he arrived for the Invictus Games service at St Paul’s.

The Duke of Sussex beamed and greeted veterans as he arrived at the cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the sporting competition held annually for injured servicemen.

Appearing in a smart black suit, the king’s youngest son wore the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) medal around his neck and four others pinned to his blazer.

These include the Afghanistan Operational Service Medal, which he received in 2008 after his service in Helmand province, his Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.

However, a medal was visibly missing from the royal family’s old lapels. In an apparent snub to the king, Harry’s coronation medal was presented to him and others involved in the king’s official ascension to the throne last May.

Harry’s KCVO was presented to him by Queen Elizabeth in June 2015. The same month, the Duke left the army after 10 years of service.

This is the second time the Duke has chosen to forgo wearing the coronation medal marking his father’s coronation. Last month, when an award was presented to a top-performing American soldier, he was noticeably absent.

Royal experts said the absence of the medal was an apparent snub to her father after he banned her from wearing military attire at the historic coronation, having resigned as a senior member of the royal family.

Harry was one of 400,000 people to receive the Coronation Medal, as it was given to everyone who actively contributed to the service at Westminster Abbey.

The emblems were also presented to serving members of the armed forces, frontline emergency services personnel and prison service personnel employed by the public sector in recognition of their public service.

Living recipients of the George Cross and Victoria Cross have also received this ceremonial honour.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claimed Harry was deliberately seeking to distance himself from his former life as he made the United States his permanent home.

He told Newsweek: “Eligible people who participated in the coronation received a medal.

“The Sussexes don’t do anything by accident and this clearly underlines or is intended to underline their distance from the royal family.”

And he added to The Sun: “The Sussexes are well aware that everything they do, everything they wear, everything they say, everything will be scrutinized.

“The problem is that if he chooses not to wear the coronation medal, it will certainly be seen as a snub to King Charles.”
