Prince Harry says rumors about Kate Middleton’s engagement ring are ‘absolute bullshit’

It’s no secret: Kate Middleton’s blue sapphire engagement ring belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. But according to Prince Harry, the rumors about how Prince William got the ring are completely false.

In his memoirs Spare, Prince Harry addressed the rumors surrounding the Princess of Wales’ now iconic accessory. According to reports, the Duke of Sussex, 39, gave the ring to Prince William after realizing that Prince William’s relationship with Princess Catherine was heading towards a proposal.

Prince Harry has denied the rumors and revealed that they are completely inaccurate. “The newspapers ran flowery stories about the moment I realized Willy and Kate were a good match, the moment I appreciated the depth of their love and so decided to give Willy the ring that I had inherited from mom, the legendary sapphire, a moment of tenderness between brothers, a moment of complicity for the three of us, and absolute bullshit: none of that ever happened,” he wrote in his book.

According to Prince Harry, Prince William always had the ring in his possession. “He asked for it after Mum died, and I was more than happy to let it go,” the Duke of Sussex explained.

The engagement ring features a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire encapsulated in a white gold setting. The accessory was originally designed by jeweler Garrard. Princess Diana loved it so much that she continued to wear it even after her divorce from Charles in 1996.

Glad Harry could set the record straight.
