Prince Harry loses bid to include Rupert Murdoch in hacking trial

LONDON — Britain’s Prince Harry cannot expand his lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch’s British publishing house to include additional allegations that the media mogul personally “turned a blind eye” to an alleged phone hacking cover-up and other wrongdoing in its British newspapers, the High Court in London ruled on Tuesday. .

Judge Timothy Fancourt criticized the request by Harry and others who claim to have been victims of the hacks, comparing it to the hunt for “‘trophy’ targets” in long-running civil litigation. But the judge also allowed the plaintiffs to bring forward allegations that current and former Murdoch executives tried to cover up evidence related to the hacking, including William Lewis, now publisher and CEO of the Washington Post.
