A Roman Catholic priest faces five chiefs of assault crime and was withdrawn from his parish of Downey after being arrested by the deputies, files and sheriff managers of the County of Los Angeles.
Father Jaime Arriaga, 41, remains in the male central prison of the County of Los Angeles without surety after having pleaded not guilty on Monday for assault with the intention of committing a crime and four counts of crime of Lascines and Lascus on a person of 14 to 15 years by a person at least an older decade, according to the judicial archives.
“Archdiocese has a long -standing commitment to the protection of minors and signaling the prevention of abuses,” the archdiocese said in a statement explaining that his officials brought the priest to the authorities.
Arriaga, who also passes through Jaime Ariaga Pedroza, was returned to the deputies last Thursday and arrested for suspicion of assault against a minor to commit sexual offense. According to accusations, one of the alleged obscene acts occurred on February 8 and three on February 9, while the assault with the intention of committing a crime to a minor involved sexual offense.
County Captain of the County, Erick Kim, said that the accusations involving a victim, but that detectives from the unit of special victims are looking for additional potential victims.
The scandals of the sexual abuse of the clergy have shaken the Catholic churches around the world, but few places have seen the financial assessment of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Last October, the Archdiocese agreed with a record civil regulations of $ 880 million with the victims, paying payment by the largest diocese of the country to more than $ 1.5 billion. The number of people alleging mistreatment is now almost 2,500. The list of priests who abused the archdiocese includes more than 500 names, according to the survivor network of people abused by priests. But following the massive scandal that has exposed decades of concealment, new allegations have become rare.
According to the Archdiocese, Arriaga was ordered in June 2024 and was a pastor associated with Notre-Dame from perpetual aid in Downey.
The archdiocese of the declared a statement saying that she had received a report alleging a fault on April 2. Arriaga was withdrawn from the ministry and returned to the county sheriff deputies the next day.
In a statement read last weekend at Notre-Dame of perpetual help and in Saint-Louis de France at La Puente-where Ariaga had served before being ordered-the Archdiocese informed the parishioners that the priest had “been removed from the ministry following a recent report of alleged sexual misconduct involving a minor …”
The parishioners were informed that the archdiocese cooperates with the police. The links to a priest’s profile, including his photo, were deleted from the Archdiocese website.
According to information previously published by the Archdiocese, Arraiga is from Tenanningo, Tlaxcala, in Mexico.
