Today marks the latest stage in the Football Supporters’ Association-led protest against rising ticket prices in the Premier League.
Supporters of Manchester City and West Ham came together to parade the FSA banner to fans arriving at the Etihad Stadium.
Organiser and City fan Nick Clarke explained the issue.
“There is a feeling amongst supporters of clubs who are not likely to get relegated that they are milking us for all we are worth and it doesn’t matter if we can’t afford to go any more because someone else will be ready and willing to take their place,” he told BBC Sport.
“But it is a short sighted view. The boom period won’t last.
“We (City) are in the most successful period in our history. On the face of it, there is
nothing to argue about. But the strength of feeling around this is huge.
“It
feels like the club is trying to get rid of us. We have lost thousands of
season ticket holders in the last five years. Prices have nearly doubled over
the last 10 to 15 years. The lowest price tickets have gone up, even for children.
“People think we should be happy because we
are winning but football goes in cycles and for all we know, our winning cycle could be over.
“But we want to be in the stadiums – whether we are
winning or not.”
