Prashant Kishor will not contest Bihar elections in 2025

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor announced on Wednesday (October 15) that he would not contest the next Bihar Assembly elections in 2025.

He said the decision was taken for the greater good of the party, news agency PTI reported.

“The party has decided that I should not contest the Assembly elections. That is why the party has announced another candidate from Raghopur, against Tejashwi Yadav,” Kishor said.

“This is a decision we took in the general interest of the party. If I were to run, it would have distracted me from the necessary organizational work,” he added.

The political strategist-turned-politician also said that if his party gets less than 150 seats, it would be considered a defeat.

“A total less than 150, even if it is 120 or 130, will be a defeat for me. If we succeed, we will have the mandate to transform Bihar and make it among the 10 most advanced states in the country. If we do not do well enough, it will mean that people have not shown us enough trust, and we must continue to pursue our street and society politics (samaj aur sadak ki rajneeti).” he told PTI.

“If Jan Suraaj Party wins the elections in Bihar, it will have a nationwide impact. The compass of national politics will point in a different direction,” he added.

“The people of Bihar know that everyone is fighting for their share of the spoils. The more seats they get, the more chance they will have to loot Bihar. The situation is the same in NDA and Mahaghathbandhan,” Kishor later told news agency ANI.
