A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck central Colombia Early Sunday, sending residents, said US Geological Survey. No victim was immediately reported.
The shallow earthquake struck at 8:08 a.m. at a depth of 6.2 miles at around 10.5 miles from the city of Partebueno, about 116 miles southeast of the capital of Bogota. Residents said they felt tremors in cities like Medellin, Cali and Manizales.

The Colombian geological service reported additional tremors with amplitudes ranging from 4 to 4.6 which occurred in the same area a few minutes later.
The national unit for disaster risk management declared that it evaluated the situation in several municipalities.
The images published on social networks showed people in Bogota who felt the tremor – some have left their workplaces to seek security. Images of rural areas indicated that there was no damage.
“It was a great fear,” Carlos Alberto, 54, left his Bogota apartment with his wife, son and dog.

“It’s been a while since we did not feel strong here in Bogota,” said Francisco Gonzalez, a lawyer who also fled his house.
Colombia is in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
