A strong earthquake struck Turkiye, shaking the buildings of the capital.
The earthquake, taking place at 12:49 p.m. (09:49 GMT) Wednesday in the Marmara Sea off the coast of the Silvri region of Istanbul, recorded a preliminary magnitude 6.2, reports the disaster and the emergency authority of Turkiye (AFAD).
It was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), according to the German research center for Geosciences (GFZ).
There was no immediate damage of damage, but people evacuated the buildings while structures rumbled in the city, located on the European and Asian banks of the Bosphorus Strait. The TGRT diffuser reported that a person had been injured as a result of jumping from a balcony during the earthquake, which occurred during a public holiday in Türkiye.
In an article on X, the Minister of the Interior of Turkiye, Ali Yerlikaya, said that the emergency authorities had started “field assessments” and offered wishes to affected people.
AFAD warned people in the region against the entrance to damaged buildings.
