Postecoglou relaxed about half-time clash between Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal as Roy Keane said: ‘It doesn’t bother me’

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou believes Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal’s half-time row at Anfield “shows they care”.

The Spurs manager was asked about the incident after Tottenham’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool and refused to criticize his players despite having to be separated by their teammates.

Talk to be in sports of the clash, he said: “The guys care, so they were frustrated.

“They are unhappy with the current situation and want to change it.

“It just shows that they care, so I don’t need to talk about it.”

Romero and Emerson had to be forcibly separated by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

With Spurs leading 2-0 at the break, Romero rushed to the Brazilian to say a few words after the Brazilian, playing at left-back, endured a horrific first 45 minutes after losing Mohamed Salah for Liverpool’s first match.

However, the former Barcelona player began to get closer and closer to his teammate.

Before the matter could escalate, Vicario rushed from his objective to break it and dragged away a visibly angry Romero.

It was a strange moment, and it didn’t spark anything from Spurs who found themselves 4-0 down before adding some respectability to the scoreline with goals from Richarlison and Heung-min Son.

And Postecoglou wasn’t the only man not to care, with Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane also deciding not to condemn him.

Speaking about Sky Sports’ coverage of the match, he said: “Usually that sort of behavior doesn’t bother me because it means you care about the game, but they should have that sort of aggression in their defense and in their play.

“Spurs have been mediocre – I don’t mind that, but you have to bring that aggression to your overall game, which is something we haven’t seen from Spurs.”

Overall, it was an afternoon to forget for Tottenham, who have now lost four league matches in a row.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring by heading in an excellent cross from Cody Gakpo.

The score was 2-0 just before half-time when Andy Robertson stepped in after Vicario saved Salah’s shot.

Spurs failed to muster a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes, and they were 3-0 down early in the second half as Gakpo headed in Elliott’s cross.

Elliott then scored the goal of the match with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

Postecoglou then made changes and Richarlison made the difference.

The Brazilian got Spurs on the scoresheet when he tapped Brennan Johnson’s low cross beyond Alisson Becker.

He then set up Heung-min Son to create a nervy finish at Anfield, but in truth there was never any chance of a powerful Tottenham comeback.
