Popular primary: the organizers formalize the list of seven candidates – France
| Latest News Headlines | Local News

The organizers of the Popular Primary formalized this Saturday the list of seven candidates, among whom left-wing voters registered to vote will be able to choose: Anna Agueb Porterie, Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot, Pierre Larrouturou, Charlotte Marchandise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Christiane Taubira.

Voting will take place from January 27 to 30. It is possible to participate from the age of 16. Those interested have until January 23, midnight, to register. It’s free, but you have to give a credit card number. Nothing is taken, but it helps to fight against fraud. So far, 120,000 voters have registered.

“Democratic innovation”

The election will only have one round and the winner will be decided by majority judgment. “It is a democratic innovation, in France in any case,” noted Mathilde Imer, general delegate and spokesperson for the Popular Primary. Concretely, each voter will not choose a single personality, but he will have to rate each one with one of the following five marks: “very good”, “good”, “fairly good”, “passable” or “insufficient”.

If this initiative aims to bring out a single candidacy on the left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot and Anne Hidalgo have already announced that they would maintain theirs, whatever the result. Christiane Taubira, she promised to accept the verdict.
