The Pope proposed to welcome Russia-Ukraine peace talks to the Vatican, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, told the newly elected pontiff by phone.
“The Prime Minister thanked Pope Leo for his offer and for his serious commitment to peace,” said Meloni’s office.
In a statement, her office added that Meloni was invited to contact the Pope during a call with President Trump and European leaders on Monday, the same day, Trump discussed the peace plans with President Putin.

Trump said on Monday “it would be great” for Russia and Ukraine to sit for interviews in the Vatican. The pope said last week: “The Holy See is always ready to help bring the enemies, face to face, to speak to each other.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had welcomed “the preparation and efforts of all the parties who wanted to contribute to a quick settlement”, but said that no proposal had yet been received from the Vatican.
One of the Vatican’s greatest diplomatic kicks occurred in 1962 when Pope John XXIII’s pleas for peace have helped avoid a nuclear war between the United States and Russia during the Cuban missile crisis.
Pope Leo, the first American pope, criticized the migrant policy of President Trump and the American vice-president, JD Vance, before being elected pontiff and the White House now seems to want to use his older and right brother, Louis Prevost, as an intermediary.

Prévost supported Maga’s policy in social networks, one in which he republished a video calling Nancy Pelosi, the former Democrat speaks of the House of Representatives of the United States, AC ***.
He and his wife sat with the American delegation on Sunday by Vance during the inauguration mass of Leo in Saint-Pierre and joined the vice-president when he met the pope at the Vatican on Monday.
In Washington on Tuesday, Trump and Vance organized Prévost at the White House. Before the meeting, Trump said: “I like the pope and I like the pope’s brother.” He added: “Did you know he lives in Florida? He’s Maga, he has Trump, and I can’t wait to go to the White House. I want to shake his hand. I want to make him a big hug.”
