For the first time since his hospitalization about three weeks ago, Pope Francis shows a good response to the treatment, said a Vatican source at CNN.
This follows a declaration from the Vatican press office which described “a good answer to therapy” and a “gradual and light improvement” from its episodes of acute respiratory failure on Monday.
The Vatican source said that this improvement was due to “gas exchange” in the lungs and the oxygenation of blood. However, the risk remains of another respiratory crisis and the prognosis is still reserved, said the source.
The Pope continues to alternate between high -speed oxygen therapy during the day and non -invasive ventilation at night, said the Vatican press office.
Saturday morning, Francis prayed inside a chapel. In the afternoon, he rested and embarked on work activities, the office said.
Sunday, Francis participated in the mass in the chapel on the 10th floor of the Gemelli hospital in Rome, then participated via video flows in the “spiritual exercises” which take place in the Vatican for Lent, said the press office of Holy See.
A Vatican source said that Francis had remained connected to the video feed during the meditation duration and was able to see members of the Curia – the Vatican bureaucrats – but did not communicate with them. According to the source, the Pope’s medical state remains the same as Saturday, with the 88 -year -old pontiff who knows stability and a slight improvement, but always a “comprehensive image”.
Since the incident on Monday, the Pope has remained in a stable state and has received respiratory and engine physiotherapy. He published a pre -recorded audio message on Thursday by thanking his supporters for their prayers.
The uncertainty continued to swirl in the Vatican throughout the stay of the extended hospital in Francis.
