Pope Francis’ funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., the Vatican announced on Tuesday in a statement.
A multitude of world leaders and foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the funeral in Saint-Pierre square, notably the President of the United States Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would have planned to participate.
The pontiff died on Easter Monday after a work of several months against the disease. His cause of death was reported by the Vatican doctors as a stroke.
According to tradition, his successor will be elected in a conclave 15 to 20 days after his death.
