Former President Donald Trump doesn’t have a formidable challenger among Republican candidates in the presidential primary, according to a poll released Saturday.

The survey, published by the The Wall Street Journal, showed that Trump is the first choice of 59 percent of GOP primary voters, up 11 percentage points since April.

Trump’s lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has nearly doubled since April to 46 percentage points, according to the survey.

Compared to Trump’s 59 percent support, DeSantis garnered only 13 percent, barely putting him ahead of the rest of the GOP primary pack.

The figure represents a collapse in support for DeSantis, which was 24% in April.

“DeSantis fell apart,” said Democratic pollster Michael Bocian, who conducted the poll with Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio.

“The one candidate who in April really seemed like a potential contender, seemed like he had a story to tell, totally fell apart and those votes went to Trump,” he said.

The poll showed that four indictments against Trump did him no harm with Republican primary voters.

More than 60 percent of those polled said the indictments were politically motivated and baseless, according to the poll.

THE WSJ The survey looked at 600 Republican voters who said they would vote in a primary or presidential caucus. The poll was taken after the first debate, August 24-30, in which Trump did not participate. The margin of error was plus or minus four percentage points.

The poll also showed that Republican primary voters thought businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley exceeded expectations during the debate, but that didn’t translate into a support at the polls, five percent and eight percent respectively.

Senator Tim Scott. (R-SC) and former Vice President Mike Pence made little headway with just 2 percent support, with former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) and Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) at 1 percent.
