The Sarhali police station on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway was attacked around 1 a.m.

A police station in the Tarn Taran border district of Punjab was attacked with a rocket launcher-type weapon early this morning, police said.

The Sarhali police station on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway was attacked around 1 a.m., officials said, adding that the building suffered minor damage.

The rocket-launcher-style weapon first hit a pillar and then hit the police station, sources added.

Sarhali is the birthplace of Khalistan terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda, who is believed to have died in Pakistan.

A member of Babbar Khalsa International, a banned Khalistan organization, Rinda has been involved in various terrorist cases including the RPG attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in May this year.

The mastermind of the attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters was arrested in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Reacting to the incident, the BJP stepped up its attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), blaming the party for the “worrying” law and order situation in the border state.

“According to the media, the Tarn Taran police station attacked by a rocket launcher type weapon! This is the 2nd RPG attack against a police station (Mohali on May 8) in 7 months. A very worrying development and worrying! The law and order situation has been in a tailspin since the AAP formed the government in Punjab,” BJP National Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill tweeted.
