Police seek hit-and-run driver in deadly collision with Oceanside bicyclist

Oceanside police are asking for the public’s help in locating a driver in a hit-and-run collision Sunday evening that killed a bicyclist.

The collision occurred on National Highway 76 and Singh Way around 11:30 p.m.

The victim died while being treated at a hospital, police said. His name has not been released.

Police believe the vehicle that struck the cyclist was a silver 2013 or 2015 Kia Optima. The car will have damage to the right front bumper and right headlight and will have parts missing from the engine under the hood.

The driver of the Kia appears to live in the neighborhood where the collision took place, police officer Jose Gomez said.

Police said there was no surveillance video of the collision, which happened near the West Coast Tomato Growers packing plant.

Police found a crumpled bicycle they thought had been rolled about 2 miles away, near the intersection of SR-76 and College Boulevard.
