Police return murder charges in death of Milwaukee man held down by security guards

Benjamin Crump, Mitchell family attorney:

Well, this is a heartbreaking video captured by the security cameras inside the hotel. We start by seeing him being chased. And he’s being chased through the hotel.

He runs into the gift shop and then into the women’s restroom. And the two women that were in the restroom said he wasn’t trying to hurt them or anything. It was like he was scared, he was afraid, he was trying to get away from someone.

We now know that it was apparently security chasing him. They then went into the bathroom and drugged him. And while they were doing that, the video shows him being punched and kicked while he was on the ground, being dragged. It’s just heartbreaking.

They have a metal baton that one of the security guards pulls out and you see on the witness video. And he hits him. And it looks like he hits him in the head.

And you wonder why you would do that? It’s heartbreaking to think that George Floyd was in that prone position with his knees on his back and his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds. Well, D’Vontaye Mitchell was in that prone position for at least eight, we think up to ten minutes, with one knee on his back and sometimes one knee on his neck.

And you had all the punches, kicks and batons, which makes his tragic video as outrageous as George Floyd’s.
