Police: Providence man’s body found in Cranston was missing

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The body pulled from the Pawtuxet River earlier this week has been identified as that of a Providence man who had been missing for a month.

Cranston police said the body of Dante Williams, 28, was found Tuesday evening by a kayaker passing near the Mill Street railroad bridge.

No foul play is suspected at this time, according to police. An autopsy performed by the state medical examiner’s office found no signs of injury or trauma, and the circumstances and causes of his death remain undetermined.

Williams was reported missing on April 15. Police learned he had been involved in a crash the day before on I-95 North in Warwick, but he reportedly ran toward the river before first responders arrived. Police said Williams did not have a license at the time of the crash.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Williams’ family and friends during this deeply difficult time,” police said in a news release. “We express our deepest condolences for their loss.”
