Ukrainian police have opened a case on the trafficking of human beings on a unique model of fans found seriously injured in Dubai after being missing for more than a week.
Maria Kovalchuk, 20, was diagnosed with a broken spine and members at the hospital after being discovered on the side of the road. Friends expressed their fears that the Ukrainian model was kidnapped in sexual slavery before being thrown, beaten and bloody, by his attackers.
Dubai police said his injuries were the result of a height fall on a construction site. The model is at the Dubai hospital and his life is no longer in danger.

She underwent several operations after being found in critical condition without her passport, but is now “stable”, according to her doctors. Ukraine police said they had opened a human trafficking case on Saturday.
The article of the Criminal Code inflicts a sanction for the trafficking of human beings, as well as the recruitment, the move or the hiding place of the victim in order to exploit them. An “investigation before the trial” is underway, and no other details of the case – launched by the main department of Ukraine National Police Investigations in the LVIV region – has been given.
No suspects have been appointed. The case comes after the involvement of the Ukrainian consul in Dubai, Oleksiy Lyashenko, who helped locate the missing woman.
“The Ukraine Consulate in Dubai said that Maria’s mother asked them to find her daughter,” said Hromadske Media Outlet. “The consulate staff found the daughter in one of the city’s medical institutions.”
Maria’s mother Anna, who stole Norway to be with her, said Maria should recover from her horrible injuries. “She receives medical treatment and everything will be fine,” she said.
